BNHS camp to Ladakh

LADAKH- ROOF OF THE WORLD

This August BNHS takes you to a 10 day expedition to Ladakh. Ladakh is a photographers paradise with clear blue skies, lakes and contrasting landscape.

Hemis National Park

One of the most unique and the highest place on earth, Ladakh is very rightly know as the "Roof of the World", it is famous for its high altitude lakes one being 134 km long!– Pangong Lake.

Ladakh is also termed as a "cold desert", and is one of the highest deserts in the world.

Despite appearing to be inhospitable, there are over 300 species of birds recorded here.

Places of Visit:

Pangong Tso: At about 134 km streching from India to Tibet Pangong Lake is one of the longest lakes and possibly the most scenic lake in Ladakh.

Tso Kar: It is a large salt lake famous as one of the few known breeding grounds of the threatened Black-necked Crane, the surrounding alpine grassland is grazing grounds for Kiang or Tibetan Wild Ass which can be seen a small herds. One can also see birds like Hill Pigeon, Horned Lark, Tibetan Sandgrouse, and Ruddy Shelduck.

Tso Moriri: The Tso Moriri or the Tsomoriri Wetland Conservation Reserve, it is large situated close to Tso Kar, the snow-clad mountains, the lake and the meadow in the foreground makes this lake very picturesque; the lake is also a breeding ground for the Bar-headed Goose. One can spot other birds like the Upland Buzzard, Ferruginous Pochard, Red-crested Pochard, and Common Merganser.

Nubra Valley: The Sand dunes in the Nubra Valley are one of the highest dunes found on earth, it is one of the very few places where you can see the Bactrian or the Two Hump Camel. It is also famous among travelers for the Diskit Monastery. Nubra is one of the best places to see the White-browed Tit-Warbler, other birds like Brandt's Mountain Finch, Alpine Chough, and Hume's Whitethroat.

Khardungla and other passes: During this camp you will be traveling to one of highest motor-able roads in the world, besides many other small passes, the group will come across three major passes; Khardungla (18000 ft) is claimed to be the highest motor-able road in the world.

Chang La (17,500 ft) and Tanglang La (17,400 ft). One can see the rare Apollo Butterfly at Khardungla. One can see the Lammergeir (Breaded Vulture) and the Himalayan Griffon soaring in the skies.

Hemis National Park: This high altitude National Park is home to one of the most elusive of big cats the Snow Leopard. The park is also home a good variety of birds, one can see Chukkar, Fire-fronted Serin, rosefinches, Winter Wren, Plumbeous Water-redstart, Black Redstart, White-winged Redstart, and White-capped River-chat. This is also a good place to spot the Blue Sheep or Bharal.

Shey Marshes and Sindhu Ghat: Situated on the banks of the Indus, these marshes and places around Sindu ghat is a good place to spot the Ibisbill, wagtails, Carrion Crow, Eurasian Hobby, Large-billed Crow, Common Raven, and Eurasian Magpie.

Cost:Rs. 45,000/- for members and Rs. 46,500/- for others

Accommodation:Twin sharing basis.

Reporting: Leh Airport, pick up on Day One, and drop on last day at the airport according to your flight timings.
Cost includes: Local transport, transfer to/from Leh, meals (B/L/D) first day lunch to last day breakfast, accommodation, permits, and BNHS expertise.

Cost excludes: Flight/rail tickets, all expenses of personal nature like laundry, tips beverages, camera fees, any cost not specified above.
